HOW TO PREPARE FOR NTSE
National Talent Search Examination or NTSE is a national level scholarship program conducted by NCERT. NTSE is conducted basically to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent. It is one of the most prestigious exams in India. Students who are aspiring for competitive exams like JEE, AIPMT, CLAT or even those who are aspiring to opt for advanced studies in abroad universities definitely have an edge over others if they are an NTSE scholar.
How to Prepare
NTSE is conducted at two levels for Class X – 1) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and 2) Mental Ability Test (MAT). Students who qualify Stage – I will be eligible to appear for Stage – II examination conducted by NCERT. One of the best coaching classes for NTSE preparation in Central India is Catalyser which recommends several guidelines to crack NTSE.
NCERT is the Key
To crack NTSE, a strong foundation is needed. Your basics should be clear and strong. Follow NCERT books of classes IX and X for NTSE preparation. For some concepts in biology, refer NCERT Class XI Biology textbook. Enhancing your knowledge and applications of the conceptual knowledge of the syllabus up to class X will take you ahead on the path of NTSE success.
Develop Analytical Thinking
This is important for MAT. An NTSE aspiring student should upgrade his/her self with conceptual knowledge in terms of enhancing analytical skills. At times, students have to change their thinking process to comprehend NTSE syllabus. The highest result-giving coaching institutes of India train their students for Analytical thinking. It is basically the component of visual thinking that enables students to solve problems quickly and effectively. It involves a methodical step-by-step approach to thinking that allows students to analyze and break down complex problems into single and manageable components. Analytical thinking involves the process of gathering relevant information and identifying key issues related to this information.
Ascertain Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Analyzing your performance is very important not just for NTSE but for any tough competitive examination. Make sure you minutely assess what you could do and what you had a hard time with. Are you doing any silly errors? Where are you lacking in comprehending the subject? Whatever it is, just analyze your performance very critically.
Practice In-depth Application
For some topics of Science and Mathematics you need to have a deep understanding of advanced applications because about 15% questions in SAT are based on these applications only. To grasp these applications there is no need to study class XI or higher standard syllabus. You just need an exhaustive practice of advance problems based on the syllabus of 9th and 10th standards.
Social Science is Imperative
There is no whit of doubt that Social Study is also very important. It needs to be strategically managed to maintain yearlong study plan this is because in Stage – I knowledge of History, Geography and Civics up to state level is required, but in Stage – II students must have good knowledge of our country as a whole. For Stage-I, refer to your state’s previous years question papers and go thoroughly through the topics covered and for Stage-II, questions are generally picked up from NCERT so keep your focus on class 9 and 10 NCERT books.
